Digital Marketing; The New World Order?

For a long time, traditional marketing was the norm. Then BOOM!… came Digital Marketing! I kid you not when I say digital marketing took the world by storm when it got popular in the 90s. Netscape Navigator was witnessed to be the first commercial web browser in October of 1994; around the time people had just started to purchase personal computers and actively use emails. Already there existed the excitement of technology getting easier by the day at the tip of one’s fingers, then came the realization that businesses could actually grow through digital means. You can imagine the exhilaration business owners felt at this discovery.

I accurately assume they were exhilarated because however much everyone was accustomed to traditional marketing, digital marketing made everything for any business easier and more lucrative by far, and who wouldn’t opt for an easier option for a break? Which is exactly why digital marketing became so popular because, no offence intended, as the years go by most people want the easier way; the quicker non-stressful way. But that’s not the point for today, now is it? I’m here to give you reasons as to why digital marketing got popular and why it’s going to keep being that way and more with time. Lt’s start now, shall we?

1. It’s low cost with huge return on investment

It’s common knowledge that a business can’t do without marketing because how else are people supposed to know about your product? It’s also basic information that advertising and marketing is unarguably one of the biggest financial burdens any business has to bear to get their products or services on the economic scene. When traditional marketing was all that was known to the world, marketing as a whole was costly because of the downsides that came with it, take for example the fact that businesses had high costs that came with advertising to so many people, including those who might not have been potential customers for a product, and at the end of the day the money made would not even be amounting to or be more than the capital put into the costly marketing and advertising. Digital marketing made marketing so much easier due to its affordability and the best part being that marketing on digital platforms creates as much impact, and most probably even more, yet much more affordable and less costly compared to traditional marketing. If that’s not hitting two birds with one stone then I don’t know what is!

2. Accurate targeting

As mentioned earlier, traditional marketing wasn’t very effective when it came to delivering an advertisement to potential customers because chances are high that one would spend so much capital marketing to people that weren’t even interested in whatever they were selling. Digital marketing got so much easier with social media platforms due to the excellent algorithms that study what each social media user prefers and their initial action on those platforms. Specific adverts are sent to each user through different social media platforms based on their preferences and this plays a very significant role in elevating sales for any business all the while cutting down on the usual marketing expenses and this, ladies and gentlemen, is referred to as targeted marketing.

3. Global exposure

Digital marketing takes into consideration small start-up or upcoming businesses that may not have the huge amounts of capital to cater for their advertising because it allows them to get global exposure for their products or services. This is through the possibility of ad campaigns being visible in any part of the world through digital platforms. Digital marketing has created rare opportunities for start-up businesses to go as global as it gets via the exposure it gives them at their disposal.

4. Improved engagement with customers

Traditional marketing does not allow business owners to interact with their customers as easily as digital marketing lets them. Through constant social media posts that engage customers, businesses have managed to stay relevant and keep their buyers in a highly competitive business world like ours. The business world gets more and more competitive by the day and retaining customers gets harder by the minute. I would hate to think that some businesses owners don’t take advantage of digital media platforms to continuously engage with their customers through promotions, interesting blogs on websites and newsletters among others. It also makes it convenient for customers to make inquiries about products easily and helps business owners clear misconceptions about their products hence generating sales.

5. Effortless sharing of information

There’s no better example of a domino effect than what happens on digital media platforms. The capability of sharing anything on social media makes information move faster than ever before. This definitely applies to digital marketing; a big part of it is actually significantly supported by this. Due to the sharing features placed on articles, websites and posts of different businesses it’s really convenient to share anything related to any business. This assuredly creates a domino effect with more digital information being shared and this means big bucks for any business!

These are just a few of the multiple reasons as to why digital marketing surpasses traditional marketing. The bottom line is to utilize digital marketing to its fullest to maintain the attention of your customers, build a prominent brand while at it and make great profits.
